I Renewed My Personal Website
I finally did it. I renewed my personal website.
We just entered 2021, and at every new year people are looking for some kind of change in their lives. For a long time I had been thinking of renewing my website. I haven’t been blogging for a while either, and renewing the site felt like a good chance to start again. I’m not sure how much I’ll get done, but this year I plan to focus more on blog posts, YouTube videos, and open source projects.
I published the previous version of this website back in 2017 and barely touched it since. The old site was Hugo-based and worked just fine, but I wanted to turn it into a React-based, minimal site built on a stack I know better. It wasn’t that difficult to do. Dan Abramov’s overreacted.io project was based on Gatsby.js, and I really liked its minimalism. I made some style changes for myself, added a few pages, and the website you’re looking at now came out of that.
On this site I plan to write in Turkish as well as in English. I know my English is not that good — but I believe my writing will improve with practice. If you spot any errors in my sentences, please let me know.
Update, 2026: Well, that didn’t quite go to plan. I wrote a handful of posts in 2021 and 2022, then went mostly quiet. Life happened — moved to London, joined Amazon, lots of changes. I just rebuilt the site again, this time on Astro. Dropped the Turkish translations, the Goodreads list, the IMDb list, and the rest of the static-content pages. What’s left is the blog and an About page. Let’s see if I do better this time.
